At their annual meeting and awards luncheon, the United Way of Greater Lafayette presented the 2016 Award of Merit to Ball Eggleston PC in the 1-100 employee class. This award is given to a local businesses that advocates for volunteering and fundraising for local charities. Organizations are ranked numerically on the basis of: employee per capita giving levels, employee percent growth over previous year giving levels, employee dollars raised, and total dollars raised. This is Ball Eggleston’s fifth time achieving this distinction (2000, 2008, 2013, 2014).
At the same meeting, Attorney Jeffrey Newell was elected to the United Way Board of Directors, and Attorney Brenda Clapper was honored for her two terms of service on the board.
Jeffrey J. Newell is actively involved in many local charities, has received numerous awards, including the Tippecanoe County Bar Association’s Citation of Professional Excellence and the Indiana Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award in 1999.
Brenda M. Clapper has served for two terms on the United Way’s Board of Directors.
Also in attendance at the awards luncheon from Ball Eggleston were former United Way of Greater Lafayette President Joseph T. Bumbleburg and past fundraising chairman John K. McBride.
Joseph T. Bumbleburg, Ball Eggleston’s senior partner, was recently recognized by Marquis’ Who’s Who in America, a renowned biographical reference directory chronicling American achievement of the highest merit.
John K. McBride is past president, vice president, and treasurer of the Tippecanoe County Bar Association and past chairman of the Indiana Commission for Continuing Legal Education. He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association and a master fellow of the Indiana Bar Foundation.
The United Way was founded in 1887 in Denver, Colorado with the mission of solving the city’s welfare problems. In their first year, the organization raised more than $21,000 for local charities, and the movement spread across the country. The United Way of Greater Lafayette began fundraising in 1923 and raised more than $23,000 in their first year. Today, the organization strives to strengthen the Lafayette community through advocacy and fundraising for charitable organizations.
