Mr. Newell has always been interested in history, the Revolutionary War and historical figures from that era. In 9th grade, a young Jeff Newell wrote a class paper on the number of famous forefathers who were also practicing lawyers.
Newell, who was born in Lafayette in 1955 and graduated from Jeff High School, has been married to his high school sweetheart for 40 years. He received undergraduate degrees at Purdue and graduated from IU law school. Newell was admitted to the bar in 1980 and is a member of Ball Eggleston PC, a law firm in Lafayette.
He is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Tippecanoe County Bar Association. He is past chairman of the Indiana Commission on Continuing Legal Education and is a contributing author and frequent speaker for ICLEF.
Mr. Newell is actively involved in many local charities and has received numerous awards, including the Tippecanoe County Bar Association’s Citation of Professional Excellence. He is a past president of the Legal Aid Corporation of Tippecanoe County.
He is a member of St. Mary Cathedral Church and has been on 18 mission trips to Haiti, which he says has taught him to appreciate what he has. A 19th trip is being planned.
If Newell wasn’t practicing law, he says he would like to be a tour guide because of his love of travel.
